Biography
Herbert M. Berkowitz is a Florida mediator, arbitrator, former Hillsborough County Court Judge, and veteran civil trial attorney with more than 50 years of legal experience. Throughout his distinguished career, he has represented parties in complex civil litigation, presided over thousands of cases from the bench, and now devotes his practice exclusively to helping parties resolve disputes through mediation and arbitration.
Before becoming a judge, Mr. Berkowitz built a respected trial practice concentrating on plaintiff's personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, insurance, negligence, and complex civil litigation. Following his appointment to the Hillsborough County Court, he served as Administrative Judge of the Civil Division, Hillsborough County Court, earning a reputation for fairness, professionalism, judicial temperament, and thoughtful decision-making.
Today, Mr. Berkowitz applies the perspective gained from decades as both an advocate and judge to help attorneys, businesses, insurers, and individuals resolve disputes efficiently and cost-effectively. His extensive courtroom experience allows him to evaluate cases from every perspective, helping parties realistically assess litigation risk, identify practical solutions, and reach informed settlements without the expense and uncertainty of trial whenever possible.
